The last few weeks of any season can be a bit of an awkward time as far as haircuts go. You’re getting bored with your current style but don’t it’s still a little soon to completely commit to the coming season. If you’re ready to change up your style a bit as we transition from summer to fall, here are a few trendy haircuts to consider that will carry you right through this change of seasons flawlessly.
Blunt Bob- One reason that this style is so popular at the moment is that it’s a cut that will look flattering on most people. The impact of this cut is unaffected by the shape of your face or even your hair’s texture. It looks just as great with curly hair as it does straight. The bobbed length will help keep you cool in the warm days between seasons, but not take it so short that you can’t grow it out for winter.
Pixie With Layers- More and more people are opting for shorter, easier-to-care-for hairstyles. That’s one reason that a layered pixie is trending so high right now. Layers add depth, dimension, and character to your style without making it fussy and difficult to style.
Bixie- This is a new one for some who haven’t heard of it. It combines the best features of both a bob and a pixie- hence the name bixie. Just like other currently trending styles, this cut incorporates layers in an easy-to-care-for style that is short but not too short.
Octopus- The octopus may have a funny-sounding name, but it’s far from funny looking. This is a modernized version of the shag that exploded in 2022. You have the lovely layers of a shag mixed with longer piecey layers that somewhat remind you of tentacles, which is where this cut gets its name. It’s a fun and flirty style that is absolutely adorable.
French Shag- This is another modern take on the shag that has a carefree and breezy look that is perfect for these last few glorious days of summer. The French inspired choppy layers and textured fringe make this the perfect wash-and-go style for any hair texture.
Medium Layers- If you’d like to refresh your longer style without losing length, ask your stylist for some mid-length layers. It looks as if the layers that we’ve seen all summer are going to stick around for fall, making this the perfect transitional haircut.
Now that you’ve chosen a style, it’s time to adjust your haircare routine to fit the approaching season. Even the best haircut will fall flat if you don’t give it the proper care, and your hair care needs change from season to season. Here are a few tips to keep your strands healthy and hydrated as we leave the humid summer days behind and head into the cooler, drier fall weather.
Update Your Products- As summer humidity fades your tresses will need more moisture. So it’s time to swap out your lighter summer products for more moisturizing formulas to keep your strands soft and shiny.
Skip a Shampoo, or Maybe Two- On average most people only need to shampoo every 2-3 days or so to keep their mane fresh. This can increase in the summer with lots of time spent outdoors collecting sweat and sand, but as activities move indoors with cooler temperatures, shampooing daily can dry out your tresses. Try skipping a shampoo or two and use a dry shampoo between washes to freshen up if needed.
Shy Away From Heat- Heat styling is drying and damaging to hair and should be avoided whenever possible. With one of the styles above your need for heat-styling should be minimal, but if you must blow dry or heat style your hair apply a thermal protectant to keep your strands from drying out and use the lowest heat setting your styling tool offers. This will minimize damage while giving you the style you want.
